本学が育成する「イノベーティブテクノロジスト」とは、既存の価値観にとらわれることのない自由な発想を持ち、さまざまな技術を駆使してプロダクトやサービスを社会に提供し、“世界を好転させる”ことができる人材を指します。
かつて私は、日本の人々が持つ高い人間性、豊かな文化、そして卓越した技術力に憧れ、来日しました。それから36年が経ちますが、今もなお燕三条地域の人々や企業が持つ高い技術力や真摯な姿勢に、同じ魅力を感じています。本学の学生は卒業までに必ず地域の企業で実習を行います。その過程で、この地域の人々のプロフェッショナリズムや誠実な姿勢、高い技術力に触れ、繁栄をもたらした価値観を学ぶことができます。
本学の教育を通じて成長した学生たちのスピード感には、本当に驚かされます。これは、本学のカリキュラムが時代のニーズを的確に捉えていることの証だと実感しています。彼らが将来、イノベーティブテクノロジストとして活躍する姿を想像すると、日本の未来に対する期待が大きく膨らみます。
しかし、変化の速い時代において常に最先端の学びを提供するためには、私自身を含めた教職員、そして大学そのものが成長を続ける必要があります。グローバルな視点で社会を捉え、より高い目標を掲げ、挑戦し続ける姿勢が重要です。そのような逞しいイノベーティブテクノロジストの卵たちと切磋琢磨しながら、大学全体が社会にさらに貢献できる存在となるべく、日々挑戦を続けてまいります。

The “Innovative Technologist” we aim to foster at our university is someone who possesses a free and open mindset, unhindered by conventional values. They leverage a diverse range of technologies to bring positive change to the world.

Years ago, I was drawn to Japan by the remarkable humanity, rich culture, and outstanding technological capabilities of its people. It has been 36 years since then, and I am still captivated by the high level of technical expertise, dedication, and sincerity of the people and companies in the Tsubame-Sanjo region. At our university, all students are required to participate in hands-on training with local companies before graduation. Through these experiences, they gain firsthand experience with the professionalism, integrity, and advanced technical skills of the region’s people, as well as the values that have fostered their success.

I am constantly amazed by the rapid growth demonstrated by our students as a result of the education they receive at our university. This is a testament to how well our curriculum aligns with the demands of the times. When I imagine these students excelling as innovative technologists in the future, my expectations for Japan’s potential as a nation grow even stronger.

That said, in this rapidly changing era, it is essential that the university itself, along with its faculty and staff—including myself—continues to evolve. Maintaining a global perspective, setting higher goals, and embracing challenges are critical. By fostering an environment where these resilient and ambitious innovators can push their boundaries and learn from one another, we aim to allow the university as a whole to make an even greater impact on society. We are committed to taking on this challenge every day.
